importlib-metadata appear to require python>=3.7, so I had to remove python 3.6 from the macos tests.

The linux 3.6 tests pass because an (older?) version of importlib-metadata is already installed on the VM, but you may want to just remove support for python 3.6 entirely? Python 3.6 looks to go out of support next week (end 2021: https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0494/#and-beyond-schedule).
