Hi!

This is configurable on a per-project basis -- --color-inline-code-background is the CSS variable controlling this.

I remember spending a lot of time tweaking this originally, and this current low-contrast choice was the only one that made sense for the constraints I had placed:

  • border under links, which is common for intersphinx-generated class links.
  • distinction from normal text when inline without a link.
  • not providing a large palette of colours out-of-the-box.
  • light and dark mode toggles shouldn't significantly change contrast ratios.
