I think it would be a great improvement if tabs could be arranged vertically, with title-tab on the left and content on the right (or vice-versa). I am not sure about the changes and effort required, but this would prove useful in cases like:

  • the titles are long, but here also a "wrap" option for titles would help;
  • there are many tabs and they do not fit the width of the text, window, frame, or viewport;

I can currently have titles on the left and content on the right, but still the titles are above the contents, so readability is difficult, not to mention that external text sneaks in.

We use semantic-ui to do the rendering, and it has support for this so should be an easy addition.

I think this one is no longer an issue, since the same effect I had in mind can be obtained by using the dropdown directive from sphinx-panels.
