Inspired by https://www.jenkins.io/blog/2021/08/17/docker-images-use-jdk-11-by-default/#:~:text=Docker%20tag%20updates%20stopped

fwiw: usage of centos was practically 0 when under hayd/ on docker hub.

I don't mind deprecating centos in favor of something else, though it's worth noting that Rocky linux is also a popular replacement for Centos now, also amazonlinux2 is based off of Centos and could be a suitable replacement (or just as another flavor altogether)

There is also oraclelinux.

oraclelinux is off the table 🙃

Hm... why? https://linux.oracle.com/switch/centos/

I mean, I'm not a fan of it, the same way I'm not a fan of almalinux, rocky, amazonlinux or anything else based on Red Hat, so I guess it's not a personal choice.

https://hub.docker.com/_/openjdk publishes variants based on oraclelinux, but not almalinux, amazonlinux or rocky, btw.
