I think we should rebase this on main after we merge in 0.4.x (which now has #984).

Would you mind rebasing this on current main? Should hopefully not be too painful.

Does this already take into account the differences of what can be const on 1.38 (0.4.x MSRV) vs 1.48 (main MSRV)?

Looks good once this has been rebased on latest main. @djc - in this case as it is passing the tests it should meet MSRV on 1.48 - the only thing it is plausible that there are other missed opportunities to be made const?

Rebased it. I think MSRV is unchanged since last time I looked at this, so it should be good. That was the limiting factor for both PRs.

Seeing this error message on the MSRV build:

error: failed to parse manifest at `/home/runner/.cargo/registry/src/github.com-1ecc6299db9ec823/syn-2.0.0/Cargo.toml`

Caused by:
failed to parse the `edition` key

Caused by:
this version of Cargo is older than the `2021` edition, and only supports `2015` and `2018` editions.

Sounds like it's not my fault. Not sure what to do about it

Looks like syn is pulled in by serde-derive in dev-dependencies. Either need to up the MSRV or constrain syn version.

@tormeh - once #994 has been merged that will resolve this issue in the MSRV checking

That PR is for the 0.4 branch, so until it reaches main it won't fix the CI issue for this PR.

@djc If you don't care about the CI I guess you can just merge it now?

I really like this change. Some nice startup time improvements I can easily get from this in my own project.

[Compare Source](chronotope/chrono@v0.4.25...v0.4.26)

The changes from [#807](chronotope/chrono#807) we merged for 0.4.25 unfortunately restricted parsing in a way that was incompatible with earlier 0.4.x releases. We reverted this in [#1113](chronotope/chrono#1113). A small amount of other changes were merged since.

### [`v0.4.25`](https://github.com/chronotope/chrono/releases/tag/v0.4.25): 0.4.25

[Compare Source](chronotope/chrono@v0.4.24...v0.4.25)

Time for another maintenance release. This release bumps the MSRV to 1.56; given MSRV bumps in chrono's dependencies (notably for syn 2), we felt that it no longer made sense to support any older versions. Feedback welcome in our issue tracker!
