Is your feature request related to a problem or challenge? Please describe what you are trying to do.

The docs suggest BYTE_STREAM_SPLIT is supported when it isn't.

Describe the solution you'd like

We should document that BYTE_STREAM_SPLIT is not supported.

It might also be worth documenting the characteristics of the various encodings, in particular that the more complex encodings are not very well supported by the ecosystem and tend to severely hurt decode performance.
